KKFU Attains New Certification Status

Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Limited (KKFU) during its 21st Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) held in August 2015 resolved to join multiple certification schemes in addition to Fairtrade. The Union is glad to announce that it has obtained certificates to trade under both  UTZ and Rainforest Alliance Certification Schemes. This goal was achieved after rigorous processes to train members on the standards and passing audits respectively.

On 30th March 2016, KKFU received its UTZ certificate with an initial number of 3000 farmers to produce an estimated 2000MT of certified cocoa.

As part of plans to extend the UTZ programme to cover more farmers, 7,000 farmers with estimated volume of 8,000MT were added to the programme, bringing the total  to 10,000 farmers with an estimated volume of 10,000MT. These farmers belong to Bibiani, Offinso, Konongo, Sankore, Asawinso and Akontombra Co-operative societies.

Later in November 2017, an additional group of 3000 farmers in 3 Co-operative Societies, were certified under the Rainforest Alliance Certification scheme.

Kuapa believes in continously providing social and economic benefits to members without flouting best standards in safety, labour and the environment. We are therefore very excited about this new achievement and look forward to welcoming new trade and technical partners to join in this cause.
