Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union has established a new depot at Bibiani - a cocoa growing community in the Ashanti region. This depot has added up to the existing depots. The ultra-modern depot was opened last week when the National Executive Council (NEC) of Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union, management and staff and cherished Kuapa Kokoo farmers horded at Bibiani to inaugurate it.
Mr. Alex Tettey-contractor on the day of inauguration stated that the cost of the building project summed up to Two Hundred and Ninety three Thousand Seven Hundred Ghana Cedis (293,700.00). The new Bibiani depot has an attached apartment and a guest house for the District Manager and staff of Kuapa Kokoo in the district respectively.
With this large depot, cocoa will be well assembled and stored. The depot is expected to take about 2000 tonnes of cocoa. The main reason for this depot was to accommodate the excess cocoa which could not be left outside due to the unfavorable conditions of the weather. This new depot has a well-ventilated nature which can be well considered that the cocoa will be safe from any bad weather.
Mr Abrampah Mensah – Executive Secretary of KKFU – in his speech admonished the district manager and the district executives’ members to ensure that the facility is well maintained in order that it will better serve its purpose. He called on members to fill the depot with good quality cocoa beans and urged them not to make the huge investment go waste.
During the occasion, Yaw Sraha- the out-going Treasurer of National Executive Council of Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union showed his impression about the depot. He said” As part of Kuapa Kokoo’s vision to be the leading, caring, efficient and the most recognized cooperative in cocoa production and marketing, Kuapa Kokoo always ensures that it increases its level of productivity therefore the need to build this depot’’.
Elias Mohammed who has also served his tenure as the Welfare Officer of the NEC and Bibiani district president in turn advised his colleague members to be dedicated to the cause of Kuapa Kokoo by being honest in their dealings with the organization. He added that Bibiani district should count themselves lucky to have benefitted from the facility and therefore take good care of it.
The occasion was chaired by Nana Yaw Frimpong - Chief of Kuffour Camp who cut sod to open the warehouse. Also present at the occasion included: Madam Anna Awere, Esther Kuffour, Mr Appiah Kwarteng and Isaac Baidoo all NEC members.
